Abbreviation for "Anything But Chardonnay (Cabernet)", in German "Everything except Chardonnay (or Cabernet)". From the 1980s, a preference for the two grape varieties developed worldwide Chardonnay and Cabernet Sauvignon both on the part of the producers and especially among the consumers. It was particularly considered “chic” or “in” to prefer to drink wines from these two varieties. Wine connoisseurs expressed their displeasure and weariness by creating a soon-to-be saying against it. The ABC phenomenon also caused a change, so that other varieties became interesting as a result. The term "ABC style" is also used in a derogatory way for wines with a special style in which wines from Chardonnay, but also from other varieties such as Sauvignon Blanc, have been / are being expanded. These were (are) high alcohol content, slightly sweet taste and distinctive wood tone ( toast flavor ). See also under Coca-Cola wines,
