Abbreviation for "Anything But Chardonnay (Cabernet)", in English "Everything except Chardonnay (or Cabernet)". From the 1980s, developed a preference for the two grape varieties worldwide Chardonnay and Cabernet Sauvignon both on the part of producers, and especially among consumers. It was especially considered "chic" or "in", preferred to drink wines from these two varieties. Wine connoisseurs expressed their displeasure and weariness by soon creating a winged saying against it. The ABC phenomenon also caused a reversal, so that in the sequence also other varieties were interesting. The term "ABC style" is also used rather pejoratively for wines with a special style in which wines from Chardonnay, but also from other varieties such as Sauvignon Blanc, were / are.
