Abtsberg

In addition to the two vineyards listed below, there are individual vineyards of this name in Germany in the municipalities of Graach (Moselle), Impflingen (Palatinate) and in the sole possession of the Maximin Grünhaus vineyard - vineyard of the von Schubert family. The name is probably derived from an earlier ecclesiastical (abbot) estate.

Hörstein - Franconia (Main quadrangle)

The Benedictine monastery of Seligenstadt, founded by Einhard (770-840), cultivated vines here as early as the 10th century. During a visit in 2006, Pope Benedict XVI was served a Riesling from this vineyard. Today, the vineyards are actually parcels of land from the Großlage Reuschberg, which may be marketed under the single vineyard name Abtsberg. The west-facing vineyard with a slope of 20 to 30% at 230 metres above sea level covers six hectares of vineyards on soils with mica slate, gneiss and granite. The white wine variety Riesling is mainly cultivated here. The wineries Schloßweingut Becker and Staatlicher Hofkeller Würzburg, for example, have shares in the site.

Abtsberg - Hörstein in Franken

Zell-Weierbach - Baden (Ortenau)

The south-east to west-north-west facing vineyards with a slope of 20 to 40% at an altitude of 200 to 300 metres above sea level cover 108 hectares of vineyards on clay loess and granite weathered soils. Shares in the site are held, for example, by the Freiherr von und zu Franckenstein and Schloss Ortenberg wineries, as well as by the members of the WG Zeller Abtsberg Winzer.
