Abbreviation for "acceptable daily intake". This is understood to mean the tolerable amount of a substance that a person has throughout his or her lifetime without (probably) negatively or that health can take on disabling consequences. In general, the amounts are determined in animal experiments, with the corresponding substances (pollutants) are supplied via the diet over a longer period of daily.
