Adaptation

adaptation (GB)

Latin term for adaptation. In viticulture, the term is used for the suitability of rootstocks in certain soil types. Special attention is paid to lime and drought tolerance. In case of poor adaptation, growth disturbances and loss of performance are the order of the day. Accumulating wetness leads to chlorosis in rootstocks, because a lack of oxygen in the soil leads to the death of the roots and thus to a general deficiency. See also under graft affinity.
