The white grape variety comes from Spain. Synonyms are Agodenho, Agudelha, Agudelho, Agudenho, Gouveio as the second main name, Verdelho, Verdelho Branco, Verdelho do Dão ( Portugal ); Agodello, Berdello, Godelho, Godella, Godenho, Ojo de Gallo, Prieto Picudo Blanco, Trincadente ( Spain ); and a number of other names that confusingly refer to the varieties listed below. The old variety most probably comes from the banks of the Río Sil in Galicia, in northwestern Spain. It was first mentioned in 1531 by the Ampelographen Rui Fernandes under Agudelho and Trincadente in the Portguguese Douro.
