The red grape variety originates from Greece. Synonyms are Aetoniki, Aetonychi, Aetonychi Mavro, Vulture Claw, Nuchato Mavro, Nychato Mavro, Piperiona, Piperionos, Piperoni and Razaki Mavro. According to DNA analyses carried out in 2013, it is a presumed natural cross between Kontegalo x Heptakilo (Axina de Tres Bias). However, this is based on only 20 DNA markers (see Molecular Genetics). There is a genetic relationship with the Vilana variety. The vine is used as table grape.
