Akhtanak

The red grape variety is a new breed between Sorok Lyet Oktyabrya (Kopchak x Alicante Henri Bouschet ) x Saperavi, Synonyms are 2-18-23, Akchtanak, Haghtanak and Hakhtanak (the latter means "victory"). The crossing took place in 1977 in Armenia by the breeder PK Aivazyan. The very late ripening and productive vine is in the region Ararat grown in western central Armenia. The versatile variety is used for the production of still wines, fortified wines and sparkling wines, as well table grapes, However, no stocks were shown in 2010 (Statistics Kym Anderson ).
