The red grape comes from Portugal or France. It is probably a very old variety, although it was first mentioned relatively late in 1971. According to a hypothesis, it should stop France have been introduced, which the synonym Tinta Francesa de Viseu could indicate. The parentage is unknown. In any case, it is not a color mutation of the two white varieties Albarín Blanco or Alfrocheiro Branco (Portuguese name for Trebbiano Toscano ) or the other way around.
