Albeisa

Italian name for a special bottle shape in Italian Piedmont, named after the city of Alba (province of Cuneo). It resembles a Burgundy bottle, but has a longer neck and wider shoulders. The colour is mostly brown. The Albeisa bottle was introduced at the beginning of the 18th century as a typical local trademark. In 1973 an Albeisa producers' association was founded for the purpose of revival. The Albeisa bottle is used in Piedmont for various DOC/DOCG wines, for Barolo and Barbaresco it is mandatory in the regulations. See also under Bottles and wine containers.
