Albillo

Name component of many often unrelated Spanish grape varieties. The name "Albillo" was mentioned by the Spanish agronomist Gabriel Alonso de Herrera (1470-1539) in 1513 in his description of the varieties of the regions of Andalusia, Extremadura and Castile-León in the plural form "Albillas". It can be assumed that he meant Albillo Real. The name is derived from "alba" for "white". DNA analyses have identified the following varieties:

Albillo Criollo (Albillo Chriolle)
Albillo de Albacete (Albilla, Albilla de Manchuela, Albillo, Albillo del Pozo)
Albillo de Lucena = Palomino
Albillo de Nava = Verdejo
Albillo di Toro = Muscat d'Alexandrie
Albillo Forastero
Albillo Mayor (Albilla, Albillo, Albillo de Toro)
Albillo Negro = Tempranillo
Albillo Real (A. Blanco, A. Castellano, A. de Cebreros, A. de Granada, A. de Madrid, A. de Toro, A. Peco, A. Verdal)
Albillo Real Extremadur (Albillo de Granada, Albillo Real)
