DO area on the Mediterranean coast in the northeastern region of Spain Catalonia north and near Barcelona. It has a typical Mediterranean climate with mild winters and dry, hot summers. Syrah and Cabernet Sauvignon, Important white wines are Pansa Blanca and Pansa Rosada (both Xarello ), Garnatxa Blanca ( Garnacha Blanca ) Picapoll Blanco, Malvasia ( Planta Nova?) Macabeo. Parellada. Chardonnay. Sauvignon Blanc and Chenin Blanc, The area is mainly known for its aromatic white wines. There are also wines for the sparkling wine Cava produced.
