DOC area for red, rosé and white wines in the northwest corner of the Italian region Sardinia, The zone comprises the municipalities of Alghero, Ittiri, Olmedo, Ossi, Tissi, Uri and Usini, as well as a part of Sassari in the province of Sassari. The largest Sardinian winery Sella & Mosca is based in the provincial capital of Alghero. The varietal wines must contain at least 85% of the respective variety, the rest can be other approved. The red wines are Cabernet ( Cabernet Franc and or Cabernet Sauvignon and or Carmenère ) Cagnulari or Cagniulari ( Graciano ) Merlot and Sangiovese, The white wines are Chardonnay, Sauvignon ( Sauvignon Blanc ) Torbato and Vermentino, The wine types Bianco , Rosso (also as Novello and Liquoroso ) and rosato can be produced in any mixture or use of the approved varieties. All red wines are also available as long-aged Riserva, As Spumante there are Bianco, Chardonnay and Torbato. As Frizzante there are Bianco, Rosato and Vermentino. A sweet one Passito is only available from Bianco.
