Alicante Ganzin

The red grape variety is a new variety between Aramon Rupestris - Ganzin 4(Aramon Noir x Rupestris Ganzin) x Alicante Henri Bouschet. It contains genes from Vitis rupestris and Vitis vinifera. The hybrid was crossed in France in 1886 by the private breeder Victor Ganzin. The vine is very sensitive to both mildew species. It produces deep dark red wines, which is why it has been used for the breeding of complexion turnery varieties; Harold Olmo (1909-2006) at Royalty and Rubired, among others. The French breeder Albert Seibel used it in some new breeds, such as Gloire de Seibel. It was also used as a rootstock. The variety is no longer significant; no stock was reported in 2016 (statistics Kym Anderson).
