The winery is located near the municipality of Ausejo in the Spanish Rioja sub-region of Rioja Oriental. Gonzalo Rojas began producing wines in 1920 as a young man in his first bodega in Laguardia, which were highly sought after among French merchants. In 1962, at the age of 65, he bought 1,000 hectares of fallow land (a former hunting ground of the Marqués de Legarda) and began to cultivate it partly for viticulture. This is considered the founding date of the winery. Today, the winery is run by Alica Rojas. The vineyards cover a total of 125 hectares. They are planted with Tempranillo, Garnacha Tinta, Graciano, Viura (Macabeo), Malvasía and Mazuelo. The Collado de la Estrella vineyard is cultivated according to ecological criteria. The product range includes the brands or Mariott" (Tinto Joven, Crianza, Reserva), "Collado de la Estrella"; "Solarce"; "Solarce Ecológico" (all three lines with Blanco, Rosado, Tinto, Crianza, Reserva); "Alicia Rojas" (Blanco from Viura, Crianza from Tempranillo, Reserva from 80% Tempranillo, 10% Graciano, 10% Mazuelo); as well as the flagship "Alicia Rojas Private Collection Reserva" from selected grapes of best quality (60% Tempranillo, 30% Graciano, 10% Cabernet Sauvignon). Besides viticulture, there are other activities (almond trees, olive trees, cereal cultivation, beekeeping, sheep breeding).
