The winery is located in the municipality of Oestrich-Winkel in the German wine-growing region of Rheingau. The history of the traditional family goes back to the 13th century. The foundation stone for today's business was laid in 1773 by Philipp Anton Allendorf. In 1955, the vineyards covered just 1.5 hectares. Today, with around 70 hectares, it is the largest family-run winegrowing business in the Rheingau. Since 2015, the restaurant "Brentanohaus", built in 1751 in the centre of Winkel, has been managed, where Johann Wolfgang von Goethe (1749-1832) and Jacob (1785-1863) and Wilhelm Grimm (1786-1859) were guests.

The winery is run by Ulrich Allendorf and his sister Christine Schönleber. Josef Schönleber (brother-in-law of the owner) is the manager and Max Schönleber is the cellar master. The vineyards are located in the single vineyard sites Hinterkirch and Höllenberg(Assmannshausen), Berg Roseneck, Berg Rottland (Rüdesheim), as well as Dachsberg, Hasensprung and Jesuitengarten (Winkel). They are planted with the white wine varieties Riesling, Pinot Gris, Chardonnay and Gewürztraminer, as well as with the red wine varieties Pinot Noir and Pinot Meunier.

The wines are marketed according to the VDP classification in the quality lines Schatzkammerweine (selected site wines of special quality, Goldkapsel), Lagenweine (a maximum of three top sites from each district, Riesling or Spätburgunder), Ortsweine (only one district, Riesling or Spätburgunder) and Gutsweine (all varieties, all sites). The Grossen Gewächse are Rieslings from the VDP-classified Grossen Lagen. The flagship of the house is the red wine "Quercus Superior Pinot Noir", aged in 100%$ new barriques. In years with suitable weather conditions, Trockenbeerenauslesen and ice wines are also produced. Bottle-fermented sparkling wines, noble brandies (wine, marc, wild raspberry, pear) and grape juice are also offered.

A special feature is the "Wine.Experience.World", which allows winery visitors to experience the variety and range of aromas and flavours of the different wines during special wine tastings. As another special feature, vines or their yields can be leased for five or ten years. The winery has been a member of the VDP (Association of German Prädikat Wine Estates) and Charta Rheingau since 1999.
