Producer description of "Alpha Estate"

The winery is located in the town of Amynteo in the east of the prefecture of Florina in the Greek region of Macedonia. It is run by Dr. Stefanos Koundouras, Makis Mavridis (3rd generation family winemaker) and Angelos Iatridis (Bordeaux-trained chemist-oenologist). The vineyards cover 69 hectares of vines, planted with the red wine varieties Xynomavro (partly ungrafted), Mavrodaphne, Syrah, Merlot, Barbera, Negroamaro, Montepulciano, Tannat and Pinot Noir, as well as the white wine varieties Malagousia, Chardonnay, Gewürztraminer and Sauvignon Blanc. Artificial irrigation must be used. The cellar is equipped with the most modern technology, the entire processing is automatically monitored and controlled by computer. Natural gravity is used for gentle processing. The product range includes red, rosé and white wines POP Amynteo (quality wines) and Topikos Oinos (country wines). The flagship of the house is "ALPHA ESTATE Red", a red wine cuvee made of Syrah, Xynomavro and Merlot.
