He is considered a pioneer in viticulture and a pioneer of new methods in the Langhe, In 1978 he introduced curtain thinning, which was unusual in this area at the time, in order to increase the quality. He also started experimenting with barrel aging at the time. Altare is considered one of the pioneers of modern Barolo and Barbera wines. The vineyards cover nine hectares of vineyards planted with Nebbiolo (33%), Dolcetto (30%), Barbera (20%), Cabernet Sauvignon (10%) and other red varieties. The flagship is the Barolo "Vigneto Arborina". There are also the DOC wines Barbera d'Alba. Dolcetto d'Alba and Langhe generated. Around 50,000 bottles of wine are produced annually. It is worth noting that the entire vintage was spoiled in 1997 by bad corks and was therefore not marketed.
