The Leo Alzinger winery is located in the municipality of Unterloiben in the Lower Austrian wine-growing region of Wachau. It is run by Leo Alzinger sen. (born 1946) and Leo Alzinger jr. (born 1979). Leo Jr., educated at the HBLA Klosterneuburg, with practical stays in Austrian farms, Germany and New Zealand, integrates his own ideas and continues with the same consistency what his father started - "All or nothing". The vineyards cover nine hectares of vines in the Wachau's top vineyards Burgstall, Frauenweingarten, Höhereck, Hollerin, Liebenberg, Loibenberg, Mühlpoint and Steinertal. They are 100% planted with white wine varieties, namely Grüner Veltliner (55%), Riesling (40%) and Chardonnay (5%). The best wines are vinified according to their location, which is documented by the guiding principle of the house: "We let each location have its personality". The premium wines include, for example, Riesling Smaragd Dürnsteiner Höhereck, Grüner Veltliner Smaragd Reserve (only bottled in magnums ), Grüner Veltliner Smaragd Mühlpoint and Grüner Veltliner Smaragd Loibner Steinertal. The winery is a member of the Vinea Wachau Nobilis Districtus winegrowers' association.
There is a vast number of sources on the web where one can acquire knowledge about wine. But none has the scope, timeliness and accuracy of the information in the encyclopaedia at wein.plus. I use it regularly and rely on it.
