Animals can cause major damage to the vineyard by eating and contaminating the grapes, damaging parts of the vine (roots, trunk, shoots, foliage) and transmitting diseases through various microorganisms such as bacteria and viruses. Pests include various beetles and their larvae, butterflies and their caterpillars, aphids, snails, pest birds, as well as vertebrates such as ground squirrels, hares, deer, kangaroos, rabbits, rats, deer, wild boars and voles. However, many insects also occur as beneficial insects and are sometimes deliberately released or encouraged as predators in the vineyard to control other insects in the vineyard.

Tiere - Rebstecher, Kaninchen, Amsel, Traubenwickler, Rhombenspanner

Control

Insects and larvae/caterpillars are controlled conventionally using specific pesticides (e.g. insecticides or nematicides). Mechanical devices such as nets, fences and traps, optical devices such as scarecrows, acoustic devices such as klapotetz and shooting devices, and others such as fumigation are used to protect against vertebrates. Like the targeted use of beneficial insects and the so-called confusion method using pheromones (sexual scents), they are part of biological or integrated plant protection.

There is a vast number of sources on the web where one can acquire knowledge about wine. But none has the scope, timeliness and accuracy of the information in the encyclopaedia at wein.plus. I use it regularly and rely on it.
