Appellation (also Arhanes) in the district of Iraklio on the Greek island of Crete. Archanes is one of the four POP areas of the island and borders the Peza area to the east and the Dafnes area to the west. North of it is the archaeological site of Knossos, where one of the oldest Minoan wine presses was found during excavations. The dark-coloured and alcoholic red wine with storage potential is made from two autochthonous grape varieties, Kotsifali and Mandilaria. It is vinified dry.
Serious sources on the internet are rare - and Wine lexicon from wein.plus is one such source. When researching for my articles, I regularly consult the wein.plus encyclopaedia. There I get reliable and detailed information.
