Producer description of "Weingut Peter Argus"

The winery is located in the municipality of Gleisweiler (Südliche Weinstraße area) in the German wine-growing region of Pfalz. The family has been growing grapes here for generations. In 1954, the first wine was sold in bottles. The red wines are vinified in an old vaulted cellar dating back to 1610. Some of the large wooden barrels still come from Alfons Argus, who, in addition to his farming, sold wine in small wooden containers to the surrounding innkeepers. Today, the estate is run by grandson Peter Argus. The vineyards cover seven hectares of vines in the single vineyards Kalkgrube (Frankweiler), Hölle (Gleisweiler) and Münzberg (Godramstein). They are planted with the white wine varieties Riesling, Pinot Gris, Müller-Thurgau, Pinot Blanc, Chardonnay, Kerner, Sauvignon Bl anc, Silvaner and Bacchus, as well as with the red wine varieties Pinot Noir, Regent, Dornfelder, Cabernet Dorsa, Blauer Portugieser and Frühburgunder. The vineyards are cultivated according to the guidelines of Controlled Environmentally Friendly Viticulture. The white wines are matured in stainless steel, the red wines in large wooden bar rels or in barrique. Bottle-fermented sparkling wine is also produced.
