Arkansas

The federal state with the capital Little Rock is part of the Midwest of the USA with the two states Missouri and Iowa. At the beginning of the 19th century, winegrowing here was influenced by immigrants from Germany and Switzerland. There are severe winters with extreme temperature fluctuations. The three areas classified as AVA are Altus, Arkansas Mountain and Ozark Mountain. The wine growing center is located in the northwest near Altus in the valley of the Arkansas River. European vines, hybrids and varieties of the species Vitis aestivalis, Vitis labrusca and Vitis rotundifolia are cultivated. The farms are Château Aux Arc, Cowie Wine Cellars, Mount Bethel Winery, Post Family Vineyards and Wiederkehr Wine Cellars (of Swiss origin).
