DOC area for red and white wines north of Lisbon in the Portuguese region of Lisboa. The inland vineyards cover 5,000 hectares of vines. The charming hilly landscape is dotted with old, crumbling castles, remains of Roman roads and historic windmills. The area is best known for its red wines. The wines are made from the red wine varieties Camarate Tinto, Tinta Miúda, Touriga Nacional, Touriga Franca, Trincadeira Preta, Cabernet Sauvignon and Syrah, and the white wine varieties Fernão Pires, Jampal, Vital and Chardonnay.
For me, Lexicon from wein.plus is the most comprehensive and best source of information about wine currently available.
