The red grape variety originates from Georgia. Synonyms are Achougage, Ashugazh, Atvige and Atvizh. The parentage is unknown. This late-maturing, low-yielding vine yields a dark-colored, aromatic red wine with high acidity. It is grown mainly in the northwestern region of Abkhazia on the eastern coast of the Black Sea. However, no stocks were reported in 2016 (Kym Anderson statistics).
Serious sources on the internet are rare - and Wine lexicon from wein.plus is one such source. When researching for my articles, I regularly consult the wein.plus encyclopaedia. There I get reliable and detailed information.
