Aspiran Bouschet

The red grape variety is a new cross between Aspiran Noir x Teinturier du Cher. DNA analyses carried out in 2013 showed that the parentage Bouschet Gros x Aspiran Noir given in the breeding list was false. Aspiran Bouschet: Synonyms are Aspiran Bouchet, Aspiran Bouson, Grand Noir de Laques, Spiga Monte, Spigamonti, Teinturier ad Acino Ovale and Tinturie Acino Ovale. The cross was made in 1865 by the French breeder Henri Bouschet in Montpellier (Languedoc). It was a crossing partner in the new variety Incrocio Bruni 147. The vine produces red wines with a strong colour and is mainly used as a Teinturier (colouring grape). It is cultivated in large quantities in Argentina, especially in the Mendoza area on 4,087 hectares. There are small stocks in Brazil (1 ha) and Chile. In 2016, a total of 4,088 hectares of vines were reported. This puts the variety in 130th place in the global grape variety ranking (Kym Anderson statistics).

Aspitran Bouschet - Aspiran Noir x Teinturier du Cher = Aspiran Bouschet

The lithograph of the Aspiran Bouschet variety comes from the work "Ampélographie - Traité général de viticulture" by the ampelographers Victor Vermorel (1848-1927) and Pierre Viala (1859-1936), in which many varieties are illustrated.
