DOC area for red, rosé and white wines in the Italian region of Umbria. The zone includes parts of the three municipalities of Assisi - the birthplace of Saint Francis of Assisi (1181-1226), Perugia and Spella in the province of Perugia. The Bianco is blended from Trebbiano = Trebbiano Spoletino (50-70%), Grechetto = Grechetto di Orvieto (zum. 10%), as well as other authorised varieties (max. 40%). The wine types Rosso (also as Novello) and Rosato are produced from Sangiovese (50-70%), Merlot (10-30%), as well as other approved varieties (max. 40%). The pure variety wines must contain at least 85% of the respective variety, a maximum of 15% can be other approved varieties. This is the white wine Grechetto, as well as the three red wines (all also as Riserva) Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot and Pinot Nero = Pinot Noir.
