The winery is located in Martinborough (Wairarapa, on the southern tip of North Iceland) in New Zealand
, It was founded in 1980 by Clive Paton with five hectares of vineyards. The name literally means "dawning sky" or, mutatis mutandis, "new beginning". Today 34 hectares of vineyards are cultivated, of which 25% are owned. They are planted with the varieties Cabernet Franc, Cabernet Sauvignon, Chardonnay, Merlot, Pinot Gris, Pinot Noir, Sauvignon Blanc and Syrah. The flagship is the Pinot Noir, which is considered one of the best in New Zealand. Other top wines are Craighall Chardonnay and the red wine blend Célèbre (Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Syrah). Every year about 10,000 boxes (120,000 bottles) of wine are produced. Since the year 2003, certain wines with screw cap
bottled. The nearby winery Walnut Ridge with 2.5 hectares of vineyards was acquired in 2002.
