Austrian Wine Salon

Salon for Austrian wine (GB)
Largest Austrian wine performance show held annually since 1988. It is carried out in collaboration with the ÖWM (Partner for the Austria tour and final selection). On the basis of a sophisticated selection concept, 200 wines are selected first and then 22 winners from these in a second step in two different rounds. At the end of the extensive procedure there are eleven "Salon Winners" and eleven "Salon Chosen". So two ways lead to the "salon". The 160 candidates for the “Salon Winners” are selected from around 5,000 wines by the state awards from winegrowers from all wine-growing regions in Austria. In a final tasting, a joint jury decides who will be included in the final selection. The eleven salon winners in eleven categories (Grüner Veltliner light up to 13% vol, Grüner Veltliner strong, Welschriesling, Riesling, Pinot Blanc, Chardonnay, Sauvignon Blanc, predicate wines, Blaufränkisch , Zweigelt, cuvée red wine) then become the hidden wine tasting in a 20-point system ) determined.

The 40 candidates for the eleven "Salon Chosen" are published by specialist magazines and wine guide (22 wines) as well as independent specialist journalists and sommeliers (18 wines) in the form of a personal hit list. The eleven most nominated wineries (Lower Austria 5, Burgenland 3, Styria 3, Wien 1) are then considered "selected salons". This "parallel campaign" ensures that the "Salon Austrian Wine" is an attractive promotional platform for ambitious newcomers (salon winners) as well as for renowned wineries (salon selected). These 200 wines (including the 22 winners) are presented each year in the federal states in cooperation with Casinos Austria as part of the salon tour across Austria. The book "Austria's Salon Wines" (authors Dr. Christa Hanten, Tobias Hierl) is published annually. It portrays each of the award-winning winemakers and their wine and represents a shopping guide.
