Autuchon

The white grape variety is an interspecific new breeding between Clinton x Golden Chasselas (Chasselas). Synonyms are Arnold 5, Arnold's 5 and Arnold's Hybrid No. 5. It contains genes from Vitis labrusca, Vitis riparia and Vitis vinifera. The hybrid was crossed in Canada in 1859 by Charles Arnold, with distribution starting in 1870. The variety was considered the best white hybrid grape variety, but it is susceptible to powdery mildew, grey mould (botrytis), winter frost and phylloxera, which made it uninteresting for cultivation. No stocks were reported in 2016 (Kym Anderson).
