Avarengo

The red grape variety originates from Italy. Synonyms are Amarene, Avarena, Avarenc, Mostera Ivrea, Mostera Nera, Mostero, Mostero Rosso, Mosto, Mostona, Mostosa, Mostoson, Mustèr, Riondasca, Riondosca, Riundasca and Rondasca. According to DNA analyses, there is a parent-offspring relationship with the Grisa Nera variety. Furthermore, a close relationship with the Ner d'Ala variety was established in 2011. The medium-ripening vine produces light red, fresh red wines. It is also used as table grape. The variety is cultivated in Piedmont and is permitted there in the DOC area Pinerolese, among others. In 2016, 153 hectares of vines were reported with a strong downward trend (Kym Anderson).
