The red variety comes from Greece, Synonyms are Avgoustella, Aygoustiates and Avgoustiatis Noir. The name "August" in the name refers to the early maturity. The variety is on the Ionian Islands ( Corfu ), where it is the second most common red grape, as well as on Peloponnese and the Cyclades grown. The acreage in 2008 was 108 hectares.
