The winery is located in the heart of the municipality of Montepulciano (province of Siena) in the Italian region of Tuscany. The estate resides in the 16th century Palazzo Avignonesi with its extensive 13th century cellar vaults. The former family property was acquired in 2009 by the retired Belgian lawyer Virginie Saverys. The vineyards cover 140 hectares of vineyards in the municipalities of Montepulciano (5 sites) and Cortona (2 sites). They are planted with the white wine varieties Chardonnay, Sauvignon Blanc, Trebbiano and Malvasia, and with the red wine varieties Sangiovese, Prugnolo Gentile, Ciliegiolo, Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot.

In 2011, organic viticulture was introduced with partly biodynamic methods. Among other things, chemical pesticides and fertilizers are avoided. Depending on the type of wine, the wines are aged in traditional, large oak barrels, stainless steel, in small 50-litre oak barrels (Vin Santo) or in barriques. The large product range includes the DOC/DOCG wines Cortona, Rosso di Montepulciano and Vino Nobile di Montepulciano with also Occhio di Pernice and Vin Santo, as well as some IGT wines. Grappa and olive oil are also produced.

There is a vast number of sources on the web where one can acquire knowledge about wine. But none has the scope, timeliness and accuracy of the information in the encyclopaedia at wein.plus. I use it regularly and rely on it.
