AWRI

The Australian Wine Research Institute, located south-east of Adelaide, was founded in 1955. It conducts basic oenological research, taking into account the needs of producers and consumers. The focus is on composition, quality and sensory characteristics of wine; development and promotion of the wine industry; implementation of research results in practice; coordination of oenological activities including collection, evaluation and dissemination of research results for the benefit of the Australian wine industry. Research focuses on the chemical, microbiological, molecular and sensory aspects of winemaking. Furthermore, market development is monitored and advisory services are offered. On the website there is a self-help diagnostic service for identifying wine faults. Last but not least, seminars and workshops are offered and articles are published on a large scale. For other important viticultural institutions, see Charles Sturt University and CSIRO.
