Bacchus Noir

The red grape variety (also Bacchus Bidault) originates from France. It was selected in 1876 by the French breeder Charles Bidault. According to the breeder, it was long considered an open-pollinated seedling of the Poulsard Noir variety. According to DNA analyses carried out in 2013, however, it is a presumably natural cross between Gouais Blanc x Cabernet Franc. However, this is based on only 20 DNA markers (see Molecular Genetics). The vine is suitable as a wine grape and table grape. However, no stock was reported in 2016 (statistics Kym Anderson).
