The winery "Backsberg Estate Cellars" is located on Simonsberg in the South African wine-growing district Paarl, It was founded in 1916 by Charles Back. His son Sydney took over in 1938 and continued to build it, since 1976 it is run by Michael Back in the third generation. This went in 1997 a joint venture with the California winery Simi Winery on. The vineyards cover 300 hectares of vineyards. It will be the white wine varieties Chardonnay Steen Chenin Blanc ) Sauvignon Blanc and Sémillon, as well as the red wines Cabernet Sauvignon.
