The winegrowing area in Hungary
is located on the north shore of the Balaton
(Lake Balaton) between Badacsony
, Until the year 1997 it was called Balaton-Mellék. It is a little further away from the lake, but still has a positive influence. The vineyards cover about 1,500 hectares of vineyards on chalk-stone, volcanic soil. The most important grape varieties are Chardonnay
, Olaszrizling ( Riesling ), Rizlingszilváni ( Müller-Thurgau
) and Szürkebarat ( Pinot Gris
). Well-known producers are Fodorvin Családi Pincészet, Lesence and Tóth Sándor.
