Balatonfelvidék

The winegrowing area in Hungary is located on the north shore of the Balaton (Lake Balaton) between Badacsony and Balatonfüred-Csopak, Until the year 1997 it was called Balaton-Mellék. It is a little further away from the lake, but still has a positive influence. The vineyards cover about 1,500 hectares of vineyards on chalk-stone, volcanic soil. The most important grape varieties are Chardonnay, Olaszrizling ( Riesling ), Rizlingszilváni ( Müller-Thurgau ) and Szürkebarat ( Pinot Gris ). Well-known producers are Fodorvin Családi Pincészet, Lesence and Tóth Sándor.
