Baron von Schleinitz

The estate is located in the community Kobern-Gondorf (area Burg Cochem) in the German wine-growing region Moselle, The history of viticulture in the Hähn family can be traced back to the year 1650. In 1892 Peter Hähn moved to Kobern and founded his own vineyard. His grandson Karlheinz Hähn enlarged the estate by acquiring the estate of Freiherr von Schleinitz and giving it the present name. His son Konrad Hähn worked as an intern in larger estates in Germany and France and completed his training as an engineer in viticulture and cellar technology at the FH Wiesbaden in Geisenheim before he took over the management of the business in 1991. The vineyards cover 8.5 hectares of vineyards mainly in the layers Schlossberg, Uhlen and Weisenberg (Kobern). They are mainly planted with Riesling, as well as some Pinot Noir. The mostly steep terraces have to be worked by hand. Low yields and the use of modern cellar technology form the basis for the wines matured in stainless steel. In suitable years also noble sweet wines such as Trockenbeerenauslese and Eiswein are pressed. There are also brandies (yeast, pomace, fruit) and bottle-fermented Riesling sect produced. The winery is a member of the Association of Chefs & Winegrowers of Terrassenmosel.
