Name (also basic variety, basic grape) for the determining variety or the wine with the main part in one Cuvée, In general, the proportion must be at least 50%, so that this variety gives the wine its character (but is not a wine law requirement). Where appropriate, there may also be two or more basic varieties, if a larger number are permitted, which is often the case with wines from southern countries. An extreme case is that Châteauneuf-du-Pape with 13 possible varieties.
