Name (also base variety, base grape) for the determining variety or wine with the main part in one Cuvée, As a rule, the proportion must be at least 50% for this variety to give the wine its character (but is not a legal requirement). If necessary, there can also be two or more base varieties if a larger number is permitted, which is often the case especially for wines from southern countries.
