The winery "Friedrich Bastian - Erbhof Zum Grünen Baum" is located in the municipality of Bacharach in the German wine-growing region of the Middle Rhine. The origin of this traditional winery dates back to 1697. Since 1993, it has been run by Friedrich Bastian, who had already been responsible for the wine since 1989. The estate bar "Zum Grünen Baum" is attached. The vineyards cover six hectares of vines in the single vineyard sites Insel Heylesen Werth, Posten, St. Jost and Wolfshöhle. They mainly cultivate Riesling (4.5 ha), as well as Scheurebe, Spätburgunder and Portugieser. An absolute speciality in connection with viticulture is the Rhine island Heylesen Werth. It is named after a former owner named Hans Heyles. His heirs sold the island at auction in 1797 and it came into the possession of the ancestors of the present owners.

The small island is only 150 metres wide, 680 metres long and completely flat. Tractors, tools and staff for cultivation have to be transported by motor ferry. This makes viticulture here a real challenge. The level of the areas planted with vines is about 6.5 metres above the average water level of the Rhine. Only Riesling is cultivated here on medium-heavy, sandy loess loam and silt soil. Fermentation is temperature-controlled in stainless steel tanks, with about half of the wines fermenting spontaneously. The wines are matured in the traditional way in large wooden barrels. The winery is a VDP member.
