Producer description of "Weinhof Bauer-Pöltl"

The winery is located in the municipality of Horitschon-Unterpetersdorf in the Austrian wine-growing region of Mittelburgenland. It has been run by Ludwig and Marianne Bauer (née Pöltl) since 1990. After training at the HBLA in Klosterneuburg and internships abroad in Tuscany, California and South Africa, their son Daniel is responsible for the cellar. In 2001, a completely new cellar management building was put into operation. The vineyards cover 14 hectares of vines in the Altes Weingebirge and Hochäcker vineyards, for example. They are 90% planted with the red wine varieties Blaufränkisch (with 50% the clear leading variety), Zweigelt, Pinot Noir, Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot and St. Laurent, and 10% with the white wine varieties Chardonnay, Riesling, Pinot Blanc and Neuburger.

Natural, environmentally friendly viticulture is practised. With the aim of producing organic products, as little intervention as possible is made in the cellar. The "Piri", a Gemischter Satz, is pressed annually from the white wine varieties. The premium wines include various Mittelburgenland DAC (Blaufränkisch), as well as the cuvées "Christania" (Blaufränkisch, Cabernet Sauvignon, Zweigelt) and "Domus Petri" (Blaufränkisch, St. Laurent, Merlot), which are matured in barriques. The winery is a member of the Blaufränkischland winegrowers' association Mittelburgenland..
