AOC area for red wines in the southern section of the French wine-growing region Rhône. It is classified as a cru (top appellation). Before its elevation in 2005, it was one of the communes in the Côtes du Rhône-Villages area allowed to append its name. The vineyards cover 550 hectares of vines on limestone and sandstone soils in the four communes of Beaumes-de-Venise, Lafare, Suzette and La Roque-Alric in the department of Vaucluse. The red wine is blended from at least 50% Grenache Noir (Garnacha Tinta), 25% Syrah, and a maximum of 20% Mourvèdre (Monastrell) and other authorised varieties. The alcohol content must be at least 12.5% vol. An AOC area for sweet wine is Muscat de Beaumes-de-Venise. Well-known producers are Château du Trignon, Château Redortier, Château Saint-Sauveur, Domaine de Coyeux, Domaine de Durban, Domaine les Goubert, Domaine du Fenouillet and Jaboulet-Aîné.
