Beaunoir

The red grape variety originates from France. Synonyms are Beaunoire, Cep Gris, Mourillon, Pinot d'Aï, Pinot d'Ailly, Pinot d'Orleans and Sogris. It should not be confused with its ampelographically similar sibling variety Bachet Noir. According to DNA analyses carried out in 2013, it is probably a natural cross between Gouais Blanc x Pinot. The early-maturing vine produces light-coloured, low-alcohol red wines of simple character. The almost extinct variety is cultivated in the north-eastern département of Aube. No stocks were recorded in 2016 (Kym Anderson).
