The winery is located in the wine-growing community of Gols in the Burgenland wine-growing region of Neusiedlersee (Austria). It was founded in 1976 by Matthias and Christine Beck. In 2005 a new built production facility was put into operation. After gaining practical experience in France at the Château Cos d'Estournel, as well as in Italy and Chile, daughter Judith Beck took over the management of the winery in 2006, after having been responsible for the cellar for quite some time.
The estate's own vineyards cover 13.5 hectares in the Altenberg, Gabarinza, Salzberg and Schafleiten areas. They are 90% planted with the red wine varieties Zweigelt, Blaufränkisch, St. Laurent, Pinot Noir and Merlot, and 10% with the white wine varieties Welschriesling, Chardonnay andPinot Blanc. Since 2007, the vineyards have been cultivated according to biodynamic principles. There is a high density of vines with up to 7,000 plants per hectare, in order to burden the individual vines with low yields as little as possible. For the basic red wines, grapes from around five hectares are purchased, which come from the municipalities of Apetlon, Halbturn and Winden, among others.
The fermentation of the red wines is temperature-controlled in stainless steel tanks, in new barriques or open in vats. The wines undergo biological acid reduction(malolactic fermentation) in new barriques or in large wooden barrels. Some of the barrels used for this are quite old and are already in use in the third generation. The white wines of the classic line are also aged in large wooden barrels. Among the premium wines of the house are St. Laurent Schafleiten, Pinot Noir and the cuvées Pannobile (Zweigelt, Blaufränkisch, St. Laurent) and Judith (Blaufränkisch, St. Laurent, Merlot). The winery is a member of the three winegrowers associations 11 Frauen & ihre Weine, Pannobile and respekt-BIODYN.
