The presidential republic of Belarus (Belarusian Беларусь, Biełaruś) in Eastern Europe with its capital Minsk covers 207,595 km². The country used to be called Belarus and Belorussia. The state borders Lithuania, Latvia, Russia, Ukraine and Poland. The former USSR state became sovereign after the collapse of the Soviet Union in 1991.
In 2022, the vineyards covered 9,377 hectares of vines and the wine production volume was 304,000 hectolitres. The OJSC "Minsk Sparkling Wines Factory" is a leading producer of sparkling wines and wines. However, there is a significant industry for various spirits(vodka, brandy, rum, etc.) and beers.
