Belfrage Nicolas

The wine author and wine critic Nicolas Belfrage (*1940) grew up in New York and London and studied French and Italian at University College London. Initially he was active in the wine trade. He is considered an expert on Italian wines and is also responsible for the Italian part of Hugh Johnson's "The Little Johnson". In 1980 he passed the examination for the Masters of Wine. Belfrage is a regular contributor to Decanter Magazine, World of Fine Wine, Wine Gourmet, Harpers Wine and Spirit Trade Review, Tom Stevenson's annual Wine Report and Oz Clarke's Pocket Wine Book. He is the author of the wine books Life Beyond Lambrusco (1985), Barolo to Valpolicalla: The Wines of Northern Italy (1999), Brunello to Zibibbo: The Wines of Tuscany, Central and Southern Italy (2001) and The Finest Wines of Tuscany and Central Italy (2009).
