Producer description of "Sucesores de Benito Santos S.L."

The "Sucesores de Benito Santos" winery is located in the municipality of Vilanova de Arousa (Pontavedra province) in the Spanish region of . It was founded in 1979 by Benito Santos, who made a special contribution to the preservation of the Albariño ) variety and was instrumental in the classification of Rías Baixas as a DO area. The current owner is Miguel Angel García, and the winemaker is Jose Antonio Porto. In 2002, the completely renovated winery, equipped with the latest cellar technology, went into production. The vineyards cover 12 hectares on sandy-loamy granite soils in the Val Salnés subzone. Around 60% of the grapes come from the estate's own vineyards, the rest is purchased from a long-term contractual partner.

The white wine varieties Albariño ) and , as well as the red wine variety are processed. After manual harvesting using 20 kg crates, a strict manual selection is carried out. The white wines from the DO area are cold fermented in temperature-controlled steel tanks and mature on their lees for 3 to 24 months, depending on the type of wine. The red wines from the DO area undergo a spontaneous after an eight-day . Premium wines include Pago de Xoan (100% Albariño, 24 months) and EO The Ocean Collection (100% Albariño, 6 months). Around 210,000 bottles of wine are produced annually. The most important export markets are Great Britain and the USA.
