The winery is located in the municipality of Vogtsburg-Burkheim (Kaiserstuhl area) in the German wine-growing region of Baden. The family coat of arms can be traced back to 1457. Viticulture in the traditional family has been practised since the 17th century. Franz-Michael Bercher built the manor house with vaulted cellar in 1756, which has been in the family ever since and is still the headquarters of the winery today. In the 1970s, the business was built up by the two brothers Eckhardt and Rainer Bercher. Today, it is run by the tenth generation of the family, their sons Martin Bercher (external operations) and Arne Bercher (vinification). Werner Rehbein is responsible for the cellar. The vineyards cover 25 hectares of vines in the single vineyard sites Feuerberg and Schlossgarten (Burkheim), Eichert and Steingrube (Jechtingen), Hasenberg (Königschaffhausen), Limburg (Sasbach) and Gestühl (Leiselheim).

The red wines mature in large wooden barrels, the Selections wines in BarriquesBarrique. Around 180,000 bottles of wine are produced each year. Fine spirits (yeast, wine, fruit) and bottle-fermented sparkling wines are also produced. The winery is a member of the VDP.
