Area (also Mittelmosel) of the German Moselle wine-growing region (see details there). Bernkastel-Kues, the municipality that gives the town its name, has a population of around 8,000 and is located on the Middle Moselle in the district of Bernkastel-Wittrich , about 50 kilometres from Trier in the federal state of Rhine Valley Palatinate. It is divided into the four districts of Andel and Bernkastel on the right bank of the Moselle, and Kues and Wehlen on the left bank. Bernkastel-Kues is a state-recognised spa. The single vineyards Alte Badstube am Doctorberg, Bratenhöfchen, Doctor, Graben, Johannisbrünnchen, Kardinalsberg, Lay, Matheisbildchen, Rosenberg, Schlossberg, Stephanus-Rosengärtchen and Weisenstein belong to the municipality. Well-known wineries in Bernkastel-Kues or Wehlen are Dr. Loosen, Dr. Pauly-Bergweiler, Molitor, Peter Mertes, S. A. Prüm, Wwe. Dr. H. Thanisch Erben Müller-Burggraef and Wwe. Dr. H. Thanisch Erben Müller-Burggraef. The municipality is also home to a branch of the Julius Kühn Institute and the office of the Bernkasteler Ring winegrowers' association.
For me, Lexicon from wein.plus is the most comprehensive and best source of information about wine currently available.
