Biancu Gentile

The white grape variety originates from the island of Corsica (France). Synonyms are Bianca Gentile, Bianco Gentile, Biancone, Biancone Gentile, Biancu Ghjentile, Jentile and Uva Gentile. The parentage (parentage) is unknown. It must not be confused with the varieties Bariadorgia, Biancone di Portoferraio or Rollo, despite seemingly suggestive synonyms or morphological similarities; however, relationships are possible. The early-maturing vine is very susceptible to powdery mildew and botrytis. It produces full-bodied, powerful white wines with rather moderate acidity and intense aromas of exotic fruits and citrus. The variety is grown in Corsica in the Figari, Patrimonio and Sartène areas. In 2016, five hectares of vines were designated in France (Kym Anderson statistics). There are experimental plantings of the variety at the University of California as part of a project.

The glossary is a monumental achievement and one of the most important contributions to wine knowledge. Of all the encyclopaedias I use on the subject of wine, it is by far the most important. That was the case ten years ago and it hasn't changed since.
