Bichot

The wine merchants "Albert Bichot" was founded in 1831 by Bernard Bichot (1750-1850) in Meursault. His son Hyppolyte Bichot (1831-1908) donated the vineyard Volnay Cuvée Blondeau for the Hospices de Beaune whose wines are still being auctioned today. In the third generation Albert Bichot I. (1870-1952) enlarged the property by acquiring several small trading houses. He relocated the wineries or the headquarters of Meursault Beaune, The company subsequently became the largest exporter of Burgundy wines. Today it is run by Albéric Bichot (born 1964) in the fifth generation. The company acts as Négociant éleveur that is, grapes are purchased from contract growers and the wines vinified are marketed under their own name. Furthermore, Bichot also acts as a vigneron (winemaker) and is owned by four renowned wineries in the Burgundy with 100 hectares of vineyards:

  • Domaine Long Depaquit (Chablis) with 65 ha - founded in 1791
  • Domaine du Pavillon (Pommard) with 17 ha

The white wines are fermented refrigerated for three weeks in tanks to preserve the fruitiness. For the red wines, the intact grapes are mashed for three weeks. Barrels of Alliers and Tronçais are used for aging in barriques.
